Montenero “Junior Professional” Programme – London **closed**

Montenero Consulting Limited (MCL) is a niche consultancy that supports the delivery of high-quality development outcomes, both directly and by building the delivery capacity of other small firms. MCL works with partner governments, donors, NGOs and other firms to provide the best possible technical advice and operational support for developing and fragile countries.  MCL often works at the highest levels of government and with a wide range of public, private and civil society development partners.

The MCL Junior Professional (JP) Development Programme is a six-month internship designed to provide the JP with an initial grounding in how the development industry works (particularly the HMG-funded consultancy sector) and the Montenero approach to supporting small development consultancies.  The JP will also get exposure to the technical areas covered by MCL’s clients. Previous JPs have subsequently found jobs with development consultancies and INGOs.

Career development outcomes will include:

  • Understanding of the development consulting market including the project cycle and related procurement processes.
  • Marketable skills in proposal work, project delivery, financial modelling and corporate administration
  • A network of contacts in the consulting sector and some donor exposure e.g. to DFID, CSSF, FCO
  • The opportunity to apply for consulting positions with MCL clients.

The programme is flexible depending on business need but will include:

  • Capture management and bid support, including pipeline management, technical research on leads, commercial proposal support, building consortia/ partnering arrangements and proposal management
  • Client support, including building clients’ business development, project delivery and internal systems capacity
  • Corporate administration to building understanding of how development consultancies operated
  • Semi-structured learning, including attendance at external workshops and seminars and guided research on the development industry, current thinking on aid delivery and key areas such as Theory of Change, Conflict Sensitivity, M&E etc.

As a minimum, you should have a masters degree and a demonstrable commitment to a career in development.  We would especially like to hear from people with an interest in governance and/or trade issues, especially in fragile or conflict environments.

We don’t believe in unpaid internships so we offer the London Living Wage and a stimulating working environment that allows you to learn and to network widely.  We are, of course, an equal opportunities employer.

If you are interested, please submit a CV and covering letter to info@montenero.co.uk outlining why you are interested in the position, what you would bring and what you want to do with what you learn.

Start date is flexible but preferably before the end of October.
